So it looked like Hurricane Ike was going straight towards us last week and I decided to take the boys and get out of town ahead of the storm. Dave had to evacuate the planes, so he's no help to me in a hurricane. Anyways, last Wednesday I packed up the boys and drove up to Austin, back to my sister's house, which we had just left 4 days before! This was also my first time driving long distance alone with the boys. It wasn't too bad except for the last 45 minutes up there, when both boys were whining and fussy (it was 6, so past dinnertime, and they had been in the car for over 4 hours). Calvin alternated repeatedly between "When are we going to get to Grady's house?" and "It's too far, it's taking too long". But we made it. Again, it was LOUD there. Seriously, I have never heard so much screaming, crying, and fighting. It's funny how the kids can go from best friends one minute to tormenting each other the next. Now, they don't always fight - there were plenty of times they played together very nicely. But they know just which buttons to push to get to each other. My sister and I are both just hoping that they grow out of it as they get older. Even Luke has learned to scream. Ugh! I'd like to blame it on my sister's kids, but I'm pretty sure he would have picked it up anyways. He let out a good one when I picked him up to leave the play area at Chik-Fil-A. In fact, he screamed so loud that I'm pretty sure people thought I was abducting him. There were lots of strange looks as I quickly exited the building...
Some pictures from our trip. Here are the kiddos, watching a movie.
Luke showing off those pearly whites...
Playing red light, green light (pretty hilarious with two little kids who totally don't get the start/stop thing). Notice Calvin's baseball uniform. That was actually Grady's, but Calvin had to try it on and then decided he needed to wear it the entire day - socks, cleats, and all.
The "babies" playing on the table. Don't they look so innocent? hah
Story time with four of the five kids. Just a little crazy.
On a more serious note, Hurricane Ike did so much damage along the Texas coast. We were very lucky that it changed direction and didn't hit near us. Whole towns were destroyed and lots of people lost their houses and all of their belongings. They're saying that it could take months to get everything cleaned up. Keep those people in your prayers.
On another note, Luke said "I love you" for the first time!!! My mom has been teaching him to do it and make little hand signals (point to his eye for "I", point to me for "you") and he did it last night while also saying all the words. So cute!!!

Well, that's not me in the picture - it's my sister. I don't think we look alike at all, but other people say we do... Interesting.
